Boy reportedly survives after torso is skewered with metal rod
In one of the most miraculous escapes from death ever accomplished, a six-year old Indian boy fell off of a roof and had a metal rod completely puncture the sides of the boy's chest (so that both ends of the rod were sticking out from either end of his sides.) Only one other similar time of injury was reported in which a railroad worker from the nineteenth century supposedly survived even after a metal spike was driven into the man's skull. Doctors commented that the boy was lucky to have the rod puncture the sides of his chest because that part of the body (along with the buttocks) is the least dangerous area to sustain such an injury. In the photo (which I am not posting because it is really gross) there is very little blood shown, but doctors suspect that the pole itself had halted some of the internal bleeding. It is amazing that even though the pole punctured the boy's kidneys, liver and upper gastrointestinal tract, he still survived.

This boy is both lucky and a medical miracle. It is miraculous that he survived long enough for doctors to arrive to try and save him and even more so that he lived through his ordeal. It's horrible to think about, but it makes sense that the rod, while going through the boy, limited internal bleeding. Wow.
That's crazy. It makes sense that the rod stopped some of the bleeding and I believe that the most dangerous thing to do in situations like that is to try to pull it out because of that. It's interesting to think about this in comparison to the Phineas Gage case. That particular incident has ended up hugely affecting how psychologists and doctors view the brain. I wonder if this case could end up being similarly helpful
omg what are they gonna do with him....that picture is horrible and did they give up any follow up on his conditions or anything?
This is pretty bleak. The very thing that causes him a bad injury is keeping him alive. I get squeamish even thinking about what that injury looks like. It's a miracle that he survived. I wonder if he sustained any long term injuries as a result of this ordeal?
